They seek lower altitudes in winter than in summer.

Description:: Chamois live across the Alps, and in parts of the Balkan and Carpathian mountains.
Chamois are also found in the Caucasus and Anatolia.
They prefer to stay in the upper forest belt, but often climb further up into the mountains in summer.
If chamois are disturbed too much further down, they will retreat to the most inaccessible areas and visit the grassy areas between rocks at daybreak.
As winter approaches they move further down into the forest.
